The Italian company has partnered with the well-known Italian NGO to inaugurate a green solidarity project at the Rescue Dada Centre in Nairobi, Kenya-which takes in and trains lonely girls taken off the streets-with the aim of providing a sustainable and reliable source of energy.
A “small-big” gesture, for lasting change, aimed at building a brighter and more sustainable future for all. With this ambitious vision, the Gecodor company implemented a solidarity green project at the Rescue Dada Centre (RDC, literally “Sister Relief Center”), located in Nairobi, Kenya.
A brand new facility built and inaugurated in late 2024, with a joint effort by the Archbishopric and Caritas of Nairobi, the Italian Episcopal Commission, and the Italian NGO Fondazione L’Albero della Vita, and aimed at accommodating and providing an education for Nairobi’s lonely girls. The new Center, in fact, represents a beacon of hope that literally aims to “rescue,” train and reintegrate into society lonely girls and young women taken off the streets, ages 5 to 16, so that they have a real opportunity for a future.
The green and supportive project carried out by Gecodor included the installation of a photovoltaic system on the roof of the building with a storage system for electricity production, a solar thermal system for hot water production, and a water purification system for drinking water distribution.
On Feb. 07, 2025, the company reached the city of Nairobi for the inauguration of the green project: an initiative that, as part of a very large center related to the reception but especially the education of young people, now also provides access to a sustainable and reliable source of energy that can improve their living conditions and opportunities for growth. In particular, the Rescue Dada Centre girls now have a safer and more comfortable environment.
Gecodor is confident that this project will improve the living conditions of the “sisters,” as well as enable their education, protect their health and thus open up brighter prospects for their future.
The Administrator of Gecodor Holding, Eng. Gaetano D’Oronzio, took part in the inauguration of the plant at the Rescue Dada Center, following the final stages of the work and dialoguing with the local community. “We have inaugurated an important work,” commented Eng. D’Oronzio, “that will ensure electricity, hot water and drinking water, essential elements for the daily well-being of these extraordinary girls. This initiative will provide a sustainable source of energy for the center, offering concrete, effective and lasting help that will substantially decrease the center’s operating costs. Consider that the cost of electricity in Kenya is slightly lower than in Italy and is higher than in Spain and Portugal, for example. Every day, Gecodor takes the field to produce electricity from renewable sources. That is why we chose to carry out this project, because we strongly believe in the importance of renewables for economic and sustainable development. So, we hope that this green and sustainable as well as supportive project of ours can contribute to a better future for this reality. We are excited,” D’Oronzio concluded, “about this commitment and we thank the Archdiocese of Nairobi, Caritas Nairobi and Tree of Life for this significant achievement and for making us feel part of a single community that generates a concrete and measurable social impact. With Tree of Life Foundation we will continue to work because sustainability is both environmental and social at the same time, and the use of renewable energy proves this.”
